Description

AFQY is 10 years old!

From 12 people at the first event initially known as soCIaliTes - where the introductions first started when the pairs seemed to have run out of steam, so I stood up and said, "Instead of the second person moving a seat, I'm going to introduce you and this is Quinn Nahi works in Fibre and John Corey who is like the Fibre Godfather for NZ, Kostia Shinderman who is in Apps and ... so on and so forth and the introductions were born...

A year in and I Red Carded Igor Portugal (Now a life Member) and attendance climbed from 60 to 203, which proved that No-Selling was a key feature that the attendee's enjoyed. From the Bluestone room, to Lenin, to Carpark and one event my plane from Sydney was late and the venue double booked us, and Roger Bennet helped usher everyone down to Bungalow8 and texted me - when I finally got in late, everyone was happily yarning and ... now we are here... 10 years on with many more stories

Overview:

A Few Quiet Yarns is the no-selling network where you can meet people and create genuine relationships which business can flow off the back of - come and "Get to know a person the person, not their suit" and make genuine connections.

Family Sponsors:

  • Arunima Dhingra - we met working in tech companies, now we both run people companies, proud to have you on board!
  • John Lockhart - The bassist from WEBTest who rides a hog!
  • Martin Smithson - The "British Lion" and keen fisherman from Korida-Aura returns to the field for the big bash!
  • Dave Howden With a tap of his magic Umbrellar, all sorts of clouds happen with a fine English accent, and UK Un21 Highjump record!
  • Grant "The Orca" Dennis ... with a nickname like that need we say more?
  • Fran Strajnar - "Mr Blockchain" himself, global entrepreneur and VC working on the chain.

Event Format:

This event presents the opportunity for all good people to form a social or personal relationship where you can understand the 'cut of a person's jib'. There is a no-selling rule which includes not giving your card out unless you've been asked for it; no one wants to be hawked widgets, they want to have intelligent and fun discussions with good people - so come to have a yarn, there is always plenty to talk about!
